Camping du Clair de Lune at Maubeuge is an ideal stop off if travelling to Germany and beyond. It is 110 miles from Dunkirk and a very easy trip. We used it as a 'bedding down' stop at the start of our 29 night 2013 holiday and the chance to stock up from the French Supermarkets and change our French gas bottle. A new Carrefour supermarket is less than a mile away and Auchan is just about 5 miles and next to it is a caravan sales place. It was the first time we had stayed there and had read mixed reviews on the Caravan Club web site which we had booked it through. It cost under £13 a night, a bargain, and included 10A electricity, a water drain at each pitch and 3 hours of free Wi-fi per day.

The reception had good information sheets and plenty in English, although the Site personnel didn't speak much English, we were able to communicate quite easily. The pitches were mainly large with hardstanding on the right hand side and bushes on three sides. There were two toilet blocks one for Women and one for Men. They were very clean and in very good condition. Fresh drinking water was a bit of a mystery until we asked. It turns out that there is a specific 'room' in the Ladies toilet block for fresh water and for hot water. It has two large deep sinks which were ideal for putting water containers in and filling, a bit unusual for us with our Aquaroll, but our usual filling pipe reached to the Aquaroll on the floor and it was easy to use our 5 litre containers to top up.

One reviewer had stated the toilet blocks were 'scruffy' well all I can say is, they weren't.
Over all to us it was a very good site in a good location with plenty of facilities. The free W-if was superb and we were able to talk via Skype to our relatives.
